At the foot of Apparition Hill lies the Blue Cross.
Despite the ban imposed by the militia at the time, since the first apparitions in 1981, more and more people have been coming to the hill to pray. On July 27, 1982, a group of young people, including the visionary Ivan, set out for the hill. Here, unexpectedly, the Virgin Mary appeared to Ivan and warned him and the prayer group members not to go further up the hill, as a Yugoslav militia ambush awaited them.
Why is the cross blue? At that time, the faithful youth only managed to find that color, which happened to be available at the home of Ivan’s father, who had been painting his fence and had leftover paint. The first Blue Cross is located on the left side. The second Blue Cross, on the right side, was erected in 1999 to provide more space for prayer meetings, which have been open to the public since 1987.
