The International Folklore Evenings is a traditional folklore festival held in Vionica, the central part of Brotnjo. The festival was founded alongside the Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society (HKUD) St. Marko – Vionica, at the beginning of 2011, and soon after its establishment, it became one of the largest and most recognized cultural events of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The International Folklore Evenings are organized by HKUD St. Marko – Vionica and last for three evenings.
This folklore festival not only provides entertainment but also has an educational character, bringing a new story from the past each year. During the festival, spectators learn about the diversity of folklore in Herzegovina and the foreign folklore groups participating in the event. The main focus of the festival is on folk dances, traditional costumes, and customs, with the aim of preserving various traditional values from the life of the people of Herzegovina. Additionally, the organizers aim to attract a larger audience, contribute to cultural cooperation, and promote understanding between ethnic groups.
Over the ten years of the festival’s existence, around a hundred cultural and artistic societies from thirteen countries have performed on the stage in Vionica.
