INTERNATIONAL ATHLETICS MEETING

MEMORIAL “BOŽE GAGRO” 2025.

The “Bože Gagro” Memorial Athletics Meeting is held annually by the Athletics Club “Brotnjo” as part of the cultural-tourism event “Days of Grape Harvest.” In 2025, it will take place for the 20th consecutive year. The memorial is named after the founder of athletics in Čitluk, the late Božo Gagro, who was both an educator and an athlete.

The memorial is an athletics championship featuring all age categories and disciplines. It is a one-day competition held according to IAAF and EAA athletic rules, under the supervision of the Athletics Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The event is of an international character, with athletes from the region and beyond participating alongside local athletes. The competition is officiated by a panel of athletic judges from the region and is equipped with electronic measurement tools, overseen by a delegate from the Athletics Federation of BiH. Medical personnel, sound systems, and all necessary athletic equipment are provided for the event.

Over the past 17 years of the memorial, numerous current winners of Balkan, European, and World medals have competed, which the event takes great pride in. All participants receive t-shirts with the logo and inscription of the memorial, as well as brochures from the Athletics Club “Brotnjo.” The top three winners are awarded medals and prizes, with certain disciplines also receiving additional trophies that become the permanent property of the winners.

The memorial features events in jumping, running, and throwing, with competitions organized across all age categories.

Between 25 and 30 athletic clubs participate, with around 400 to 500 children competing and over 800 starting places available. It is one of the most significant events in the region. We must also note that we are the only club in BiH that has successfully organized this athletics event for 20 consecutive years.

The goal of the memorial is to bring together as many children as possible, especially younger age groups, to foster their growth through sports as a means of promoting health. It aims to popularize athletics, introduce participants to all athletic disciplines, and highlight why athletics is called the “queen of sports.” The event also serves to promote the Brotnjo region, the municipality of Čitluk, the Federation of BiH, and the entire country of BiH, as the competition is officially listed in the athletic calendars of BiH, Europe, and the world.
