Križevac is a hill above Međugorje. A stone path with the Stations of the Cross, which were installed in 1987, leads to the summit, where a 8.56-meter-high concrete cross stands. The construction of the cross involved the participation of residents from all five villages of the Međugorje parish, at the invitation of the parish priest, Father Bernardin Smoljan. The votive cross was built during January and February of 1934 to commemorate the Jubilee year: 1900 years since the Passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In March of the same year, the cross was consecrated, and the first Mass was celebrated. In a message dated August 30, 1984, the Virgin Mary said: “Dear children! The cross was also part of God’s plan when you built it.”
