The Days of the Croatian Matica in Brotnjo (from the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross to the Tasting of New Wine) is the most important cultural event organized by this institution throughout the year. These cultural events last for more than a month, offering a very rich program that includes visits to various performances, exhibitions, book promotions, public forums, and more.
Through these events, the Croatian Matica also aims to preserve old customs and the cultural heritage of the region, thus preventing them from fading into oblivion. At the end of the entire program, on All Saints’ Day, alongside traditional local cuisine, the Matica organizes the Tasting of New Wine, a tradition in Herzegovina and Southern Dalmatia.
In addition to the rich cultural offerings throughout the year, the Matica organizes two other significant events: Christmas with the Matica in Brotnjo and Easter with the Matica in Brotnjo.
It can be confidently said that the Branch of the Croatian Matica in Čitluk, through numerous events and its extensive publishing activities since the renewal assembly in 1991, has been safeguarding and nurturing the cultural identity of our region.
